Is your home safe? More than half of senior Americans that injure themselves falling do so at home. To reduce the risk of falling in your home you should make sure you have done every thing you can to make your home as safe as possible. To make this task easier, it will help to break your home down to six distinct areas. The six areas to be concerned with are floors, stairs, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and garage.

Floors

You should make sure your floors are clean, dry and clear of obstacles that could trip you up. Pick up any loose magazines, books or other objects that may be in your way. Throw rugs are generally a no-no but if you must have them make sure they are secured with non-slip tape designed for this purpose. Watch out for wires and telephone cords as these can get around your feet all too easily. Try to arrange you furniture so that your path is clear.

Stairs

Stairs should be clear of obstacles such as shoes, papers or anything else for that matter. Stairways should be well lit and have at least one railing strong enough to support your body weight. There should be a light switch on both the top and bottom of the stairs so you do not get stuck in the dark. Replace any loose carpeting and repair any loose or broken steps.

Bedroom

Furniture in the bedroom should also be arranged in a way that makes every area easily accessible. If you use a wheelchair or walker make sure there is room to maneuver them freely with no obstructions. There should be a clear path from the bedroom to the bathroom and consider motion sensing nightlights to light your way in the dark. There should be a lamp within easy reach of the bed.

Bathroom

Bathrooms tend to get wet so make sure all surfaces are clean and dry. Your tub / shower should have a non-slip surface. Correctly positioned and installed grabs bars are a must. Also, consider a shower bench and a shower nozzle that can be removed to help you reach those "hard to reach" places. A grab bar or raised toilet seat for the commode is also a great idea.

Kitchen

You may have heard that most accidents in the home happen in the kitchen. Well the truth is that is where we spend most of our time and also where we are most active. Items in your cabinets should be arranged in a way that keeps heavy or bulky objects low and smaller objects high. I am not a fan of step stools but if you must have one make sure it is sturdy and designed for the surface it will be on. Haste makes waste, so take your time and take several trips bringing food and dishes to the table. Try to carry too much and your could end up on the floor with all your fine china.

I guess one good character is to be "friendly". If you are a real friend, you would be willing to offer EVERYTHING you can …. for your beloved friend. That's what friends are for! And then the word "holistic" comes. To become real, genuine friends, "it takes two to tango"! There should be mutual relationship and both should be willing to accept each other fully. So what then, is the relevance of holistic approach and its importance in our life? In our group? In our society? In our country? And in the world we live in?

In my understanding, when you say "HOLISTIC", it denotes the "FULLNESS" of need. Like for instance, when you think about healing or mending the broken heart, holistic approach is very important. It may seem alright to give medication, but in most cases and based on my own experience (so I have proven it myself), what you really need is the whole process of healing, which would involve medication, therapy, "talking it out" , Positive activities, strong motivation and "powerful PRAYER". So, basically, what we are talking about is the healing of body, mind, emotion & spirit.

There you are! You now have an idea and deeper understanding of the word "holistic".

Holistic approach is like a total package for someone who needsly needs restoration. Remember that our body system is inter-connected with the other parts. When one part suffers, it affects the whole body. I would like to end this article with a simple story that connects to what I am trying to convey to our readers and below is that story:

Hello again, I hope you are all enjoying my recipes and I have got a fabulous new one for you today which can be served for lunch or dinner.

Every day we are faced with that wonderful task of preparing healthy, nutritious and tasty meals for ourselves and our family. If I had a dollar for every time I have heard someone ask, what are we having for lunch, or what are we having for dinner, then I would be a millionaire may times over. How do we do it and fulfill all those three requirements. It is not as hard as you might think. With a little planning, you can achieve this each day. Trust me, you will know I was right when your family, partner, and body will thank you for it. Let us face the obvious, we all function better physically and mentally when there is balance in our lives. Your body wants and needs fresh food to not only survive, but to thrive. Please listen to your body, because when you do, you will quickly become aware of the fact that fresh is best.

Grilled chicken ingredients are 4 chicken breast fillets, 2 crushed garlic cloves, 1 tablespoon grated orange rind, 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice, 1 tablespoon soy sauce.

To prepare the chicken place chicken fillets, garlic, rind, juice and sauce in a bowl and cover. Refrigerate for about 1 hour. Cook chicken on a heated and lightly oiled grill pan for about 6 minutes on each side or until chicken is cooked through and golden brown. Remember not all fillets are the same thickness so adjust cooking time accordingly. I usually cover with a little foil when cooked whilst I prepare the couscous and broccoli.

Couscous ingredients are 1 cup chicken stock, 1 cup couscous, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 teaspoon grated orange rind, one quarter cup freshly squeezed orange juice, 1 orange cut into bite sized pieces, one quarter cup chopped fresh chives. Salt and pepper to taste and optional is about one quarter cup unsalted peanuts.

To prepare couscous, bring the chicken stock to the boil, remove from heat and add the couscous. Stir through then cover and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Using a fork, fluff the couscous and add the rest of the ingredients and stir to combine.

Prepare the 500 grams broccoli by first washing, then cutting broccoli into small pieces, and then steam until just cooked.

Now you can plate up the succulent chicken with the delicious couscous and the gorgeous broccoli.
