While sitting a table with my sister at what I was told was a health fair in mid-September, we met a truly amazing woman. As it turned out, this was clearly not a health fair and Grace Jones was the only person to stop and talk with my sister and I that day. One might think that it was just a silly coincidence, but I’m not a believer in coincidence. In my heart, I know that we were meant to meet that day, and I’m so grateful we did.
Grace stopped to comment on how she loved my black shirt with purple butterflies on it… sharing with me that purple is her favorite color too. As she looked at the things on my table that I was selling, she asked some questions about Reiki and the crystal healing pouches I had created. This quickly transpired into what seemed like a conversation with an old friend, and she shared with me her story of having been diagnosed with colon cancer and that the surgery was scheduled for the end of the month. This is a story that Grace had decided not to even share with her family. I felt honored that she felt comfortable enough to shared her story with me. In talking with Grace, I quickly got a sense of her soul, listening to the incredible amount of positivity that came through to me in talking about her life while speaking with her.
Thinking back to the diagnosis of cancer that came to me in my life, I remember the vast array of emotions that flooded me daily, none of which were positive or even remotely healthy for me. But the woman standing before me exuded strength, positivity, love and such light. Simply by the way she spoke, and the passion for life in her voice, I might never have known what she was going through had she not told me. I could feel the brightest light in her soul. Even while speaking about her diagnosis, she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was going to find the rainbow at the end of it all, and come out an even stronger and brighter Grace than before. What a truly amazing woman, and I feel blessed to now call her my friend.
A few days after meeting Grace, she called to talk with me about Medical Reiki and asked about all of the healing benefits of Reiki before, during and after surgery. Grace asked that I Reiki her during her surgery, and I felt honored to be a part of this beautiful woman’s healing journey. I immediately sent a post to all of my Certified Medical Reiki Master sisters to be with us on Graces surgery day in spirit with healing and thoughts of love and light. Due to the short notice, I would not be able to be physically in the operating room with her, but we planned a two hour Reiki session for during her surgery, and I provided a Reiki drip for the next few hours after her surgery so that she could hopefully be out of recovery quickly and find herself in her balloon filled hospital room resting and beginning to heal. Prior to her surgery, Grace arranged for herself, a room that would look and feel like a celebration was happening while she was there. This is how Grace lived her life and it shined through at every turn. Even after her surgery, she wanted to be able to see fun things of light and happiness surrounding her while healing in her hospital room.
Grace had given her daughter my phone number so that we could touch base after her surgery and I was so happy to hear all of the updates of her miraculous milestones after each day had passed. After a few days, Grace was emailing me herself with wonderful updates on how she felt, and completely back to her true and happy self. Three weeks later, Grace and I met up for brunch and boy did she look absolutely stunning. Again, with such light in her heart, I would have never guessed all she had been through because this beautiful woman was just glowing. And this to me speaks volumes of her person. I learned that day, that she, like most of us has a story with some less than wonderful things that she’s endured in her life. Sitting across from me was this amazing Grace, who through her own trials and tribulations in life, would not let any of that darkness penetrate into the light of her mind, body and soul. In fact, to celebrate life in the upcoming weeks, she had planned an amazing trip to London with her daughter. Such an amazing soul she is… truly an inspiration to me!
Grace, I thank you for allowing me to be a part of and share the story of your healing journey after your cancer diagnosis and surgery. It is my hope that everyone, including myself will realize life’s many blessings around us, and continue to see that we all have bumps in the road of life. It is truly how you handle those bumps that makes all the difference in our lives. From the little bit I’ve learned about Grace, I know that she continuously sees the light of the sunshine, even through the rain. This my dears, is truly living life and what life is all about. If we all learned to do this, the world would most certainly be a brighter place. Grace, to me, you are and will always be Amazing Grace, and I feel blessed to know you. xoxo
This is the healing time period recap post that I sent to all of my Certified Medical Reiki Master sisters who sent their love and light to everyone involved in Grace’s surgery:
Thanks for all of the thoughts sent our way while I did distant Reiki for a truly inspirational woman of positivity having had colon cancer surgery. I wanted to share a wonderful recap of miraculous healing. Post Surgery I received reports from her daughter that her surgery was a success. On day 3, Grace emailed me while in the hospital of doing well and in great spirits. On day 4, Grace hit all milestones and would be released the next day. She reports of doing great and to the surprise of all doctors on her healing progress. On day 6, she reports no pain from surgery – only back pain from the awful hospital bed. On day 10, Grace is well enough to go to the beach to heal in her happy place, and reports of getting stronger every day. On day 12 she met with her doctor to receive the news that the surgery revealed stage 2 colon cancer. They got it all out and it had not spread, so no radiation or chemotherapy needed. She reports that she’s healing very nicely and feeling great! Her body is functioning back to normal and her appetite is good! I feel truly blessed to receive such fabulous news as well as to have been able to support her in this journey of healing. Wanted to thank all of your for your thoughts of healing and support as well as deliver absolutely amazing news in healing.
Please share this story with anyone you know that it may help or could simply use a message of inspiration in their lives.
