Combine High-Intensity Interval Training with Strength Training for Fat Loss

Losing fat is a national preoccupation and pastime. By now most people know that a combination of diet and exercise is optimal for losing weight. Fat burning products can help supercharge efforts. When it comes to exercise, you might want to consider a combination of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and strength training for best results.

High-Intensity Interval Training

High-intensity interval training, also known as HIIT, is a form of cardiovascular exercise. The exercise is characterized by short bursts of extremely intense activity, followed by short recovery periods. These sessions typically last around 30 minutes or until the exerciser can’t go any further.

HIIT has been identified as the most efficient form of exercise to burn calories and fat. It also helps to improve aerobic capacity. While muscle may certainly be gained by doing HIIT, you may want to tack on some old-fashioned weightlifting for optimal fat loss.

Strength Training

Strength training can take many forms. You may use machines, free weights, equipment like kettlebells or body weight. The benefits of strength training are numerous. When executed properly, this form of training will leave you leaner and stronger.

When it comes to fat loss, the payoff of strength training sessions continues long after the workout has ended. Muscle gained from this type of exercise continues to burn fat throughout the day, regardless of activity level.

Combined Training

When you combine HIIT with strength training, you have a powerful recipe for fat loss. It is not necessary and likely not advisable to do both on the same day. Alternating workouts is always a good idea. When you switch things up, you reduce the risk of injury and boredom.

While there is no one perfect exercise for fat loss, by combining the powerful methods of high-intensity interval training and strength training, you are giving yourself a great chance to reach your goals in a short amount of time.
