Denison University’s Peter Grandbois as professor, fencer

Grandbois is a professor of creative writing and contemporary literature at the Granville university as well as the head fencing coach for the women’s varsity fencing team and a men's club team.

GRANVILLE – He writes textbooks, performs and poetry, and he’s a nationally rated fencer. He’s no ordinary higher education professor.

“I have two roles at Denison,” claimed Peter Grandbois. “I’m both professor of imaginative writing and contemporary literature, and head fencing mentor for the women’s varsity fencing workforce.”

Now 57, Grandbois was born in Minneapolis but grew up in the Denver place. He graduated from Overland HS in Aurora, majored in English and biology at the College of Colorado, then gained a master’s in English at the University of Colorado, an MFA in imaginative crafting at Bennington College or university, and a PhD in artistic crafting and up to date literature from the College of Denver.

“I was an introvert escalating up,” he recalled. “My nose was generally in textbooks. I loved science fiction, fantasy and anything to do with sword fighting. I don’t forget scanning for outdated Errol Flynn films and playing hooky any time I noticed an previous sword fighting movie on Television.”
